July 22 - Day 38

This is Dean's fifth day breathing without the ventilator! Around 6 am I awoke to Dean's heart rate in the 130's so I read Psalm 103 as the nurse tended to him. He had a slow and restful day. In the evening, I went to say goodbye to the staff in ICU and STU, while Dean's parents stayed with him. During the 20 minutes I was gone, I returned to his room upon hearing that his heart rate had spiked to 183. This happened twice during the nights when he was in ICU but that was weeks ago. They ran an EKG test, took blood samples and gave him two doses of metoprolol. An hour later his heart rate came down to 109 but tonight it is back up to 135. Dean has been experiencing Tachycardia since his brain injury. Dean loves running marathons, 5ks, mountain biking, cycling, skiing, and playing volleyball and we are thankful for his strong healthy heart. The rest of his vitals are good. They took a x-ray of his lungs which showed some consolidation in his left lung. He has been coughing up a lot of mucus. Please continue to lift Dean up in your prayers for strength and healing! We are seeking the Lord with all our heart, and are continually knocking and asking God for Dean's complete healing! Jesus said, "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him? (Matthew 7:7-11)

We are ready to take the next step!  The ambulance will pick us up around 9:30 Monday morning to head to Chester, New Jersey where we will be met by a team of therapists, nurses, and doctors who will be focusing on Dean's recovery over the next 8 weeks.

We are in the midst of a raging storm and our faith is being tested. We are engulfed by heavy clouds of thunder but the lightening of death has not struck us. I know the sun is brightly shining and ready to breakthrough at any moment with her streams of warmth and light to bring forth life! God Himself gives this life through His Word, brings eternal hope through His Son, and reveals Truth by His Spirit. He has not forsaken us! God loves Dean with an everlasting love even more than I could ever give Dean even if I had 1000 years together with him! More so, if we compiled all our love together for Dean, God's love for him would still be deeper and richer!
