July 9 - Day 25

We thank the Lord for another wonderful day together! He began breathing with his trach collar at 7 am and will continue until midnight. God is answering our prayers, as we see Dean breathing so well and maintaining his pressures! During the night they will put him back on the ventilator to rest his lungs until morning. He had no fever today! Continue to pray for good health during his healing process. Early this morning the doctors removed the remaining stitches on his left thigh! Dean is very curious with his right hand and we must watch him constantly. We are still waiting for him to demonstrate consistent responses to voice commands. The therapist placed a wet cloth over his face and told him to get it off. At first he didn't do anything but eventually he reached up towards his face with his right hand to pull it off. He didn't reach it entirely but he came very close! Sometimes he will reach out towards me as I stand by his bedside or grasp my hand. He will pinch things using his index finger and thumb and even pull his pillow off his lap. Today I noticed him snapping his fingers softly which got my attention and then he reached for my hand. His left hand is in a hand brace in order to keep him from posturing. Several times today, he opened his right eye a third of the way and then would close it!

Dean's favorite hymn is "How Great Thou Art" for he truly recognized God's power displayed throughout the universe! I know this with certainty because of a beautiful moment we shared during our honeymoon in Alaska. We stayed at a cozy Inn by Tern Lake which was nestled in the woods and completely surrounded by snow-capped mountains. At night it seemed like we could almost reach up and touch the stars and there we were in awesome wonder of God's greatness! I treasured the moment by his side as we marveled and talked about God's beautiful design! I know the chorus of this song resonates deep within Dean's heart:

Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.

Let's all join him in spirit and sing "How Great Thou Art" as we proclaim God's faithfulness!
