Surgery Update -Phase 1

The first phase of Dean's surgery is complete!  Dean is recovering and will be moving to the ICU within an hour. We thank the Lord for a successful surgery!

The doctor said it was a very difficult surgery and was quite bad when they got inside.  There was no separation between the brain and the sinuses on the left side as the dura mater was essentially gone above the left eye, damaged in the accident, swelling, and just chewed up.  They had to remove the sinuses from above the nose to allow him to properly protect the brain. The sinus area was filled with fat to create a separation between the brain and that area.

The doctor had to take a membrane flap from the outside of his forehead to flap under the brain and tie it in existing remaining dura mater. The doctor said there was a large cavity in his frontal lobe which he had to clean out and it dropped down when he finished it. This section of the brain is very damaged. Some of Dean's skull fractures have fused and they did not have to fix those. The facial doctor stabilized the orbital roofs of both eyes as he said it was unstable and loose.

Dean will be staying in ICU for an unknown amount of time. The doctors are concerned about bleeding and basically says that his biggest concern is if Dean will make it through the night. He is on the ventilator again. The Lord has not forsaken us and we continue to put our trust in the God who will complete the good work He began in Dean!

PLEASE PRAY: That Dean would have no bleeding in the brain, blood clots, excessive swelling, side effects to medicines or any other unknown complications. Pray for supernatural strength, nourishment, and healing in his mind, body, and soul! We know Dean's spirit sings "It is well with my soul."

When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll;
Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.

Refrain:
It is well, with my soul,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.

Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come,
Let this blest assurance control,
That Christ has regarded my helpless estate,
And hath shed His own blood for my soul.

My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought!
My sin, not in part but the whole,
Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more,
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!

For me, be it Christ, be it Christ hence to live:
If Jordan above me shall roll,
No pang shall be mine, for in death as in life
Thou wilt whisper Thy peace to my soul.

But, Lord, ’tis for Thee, for Thy coming we wait,
The sky, not the grave, is our goal;
Oh, trump of the angel! Oh, voice of the Lord!
Blessed hope, blessed rest of my soul!

And Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight,
The clouds be rolled back as a scroll;
The trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend,
Even so, it is well with my soul.

Note: We were also informed that Dean's left clavicle was twisted during the initial accident as Kessler was reviewing his records.
