August 19 - Day 66

For we walk by faith, not by sight: - 2 Corinthians 5:7

This morning I placed Dean's electric razor in his right hand, turned it on, and brought it up to his left cheek. I moved his hand in a circular motion, talked about shaving his face and that soon he would be the one doing it again. He didn't seem interested so I cleaned him up. I can see Dean, like it were yesterday, leaning closely to the mirror as he shaved his face every morning while I tried to quickly prepare breakfast before he finished. Life was full of fun, surprises and excitement! I remember feeling sick to my stomach the first time I watched a nurse in ICU shave his face because no one had ever shaved his face before that moment. Dean was perfectly capable and independent before June 15, 2012. I never know when memories will be triggered but at times they come like crashing waves against a rock. Dean gave me so many beautiful memories! This photo was taken by Dean along the west coast.

The LORD on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of the sea. -Psalm 93:4

He had a restful day with one session of therapy in the large gym. Afterwards, I put his sunglasses on and took him outside for awhile. Dean continues storming through the night with a heart rate in the 120's during the day.

Thou rulest the raging of the sea: when the waves thereof arise, thou stillest them. -Psalm 89:9

The poem I read in today's devotional by L.B. Cowman:

Does Sorrow lay his hand upon your shoulder,
And walk with you in silence on life's way,
While Joy, your bright companion once, grown colder,
Becomes to you more distant day by day?
Run not from the companionship of Sorrow,
He is the messenger of God to thee;
And you will thank Him in His great tomorrow -
For what you do not know now, you then will see;
He is God's angel, clothed in veils of night,
With whom "we walk by faith" and "not by sight."
